CSM Ingredients has achieved a significant step forward in its commitment to sustainability.
Thanks to the business partnership with Tetra Pak®, the leading food processing and packaging solutions company, starting from the beginning of this year, CSM Ingredients is transitioning from the standard version of Tetra Brik® Aseptic to the new plant-based Tetra Brik® Aseptic for its vast range of Non-Dairy Creams produced at its plant in Crema, Italy.
Made with a combination of plant-based polymers derived from sugar cane and paper, 87% of the materials used in the plant-based Tetra Brik® Aseptic pack are derived from plant-based sources.
This switch represents a pivotal moment in CSM Ingredients’ journey towards environmental responsibility and reducing carbon footprint. Indeed, by switching from fossil to plant-based polymers the carbon footprint of this packaging solution has been reduced by 12% (as reported by Tetra Pak® in the report below).
The new pack will be used for all the Non-Dairy Creams (NDCs) produced at the Crema plant in Italy, including Lactofil, Puffin and Suldy. With an available production capacity of over 15.000 tons annually and thanks to CSM Ingredients’ global network, the facility caters to pastry chefs, bakers and industries not only in Italy but also in Europe as well as in other markets such as China and the United Arab Emirates.
Constantly renewing and improving production and packaging processes is a fundamental part of CSM Ingredients’ Net Positive commitment. Through its “Thrive for Impact” strategy based on the 3 pillars of People, Planet and Product, the company strives to rethink the way it does every-day business, from the reformulation of ingredients and pursuing sustainable innovation, all the way to changing operational process and empowering cultural transformation across the whole value chain.
