In 2021, we CSM Ingredients partnered with Climate Partner, to understand more about our Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF).
By measuring our CCF in several of our sites, our overall CO2 emissions were calculated as 23,961.28 t CO2.
By using this score as a benchmark, we will be able to monitor our progress going forwards.
Additionally, CSM Ingredients has started to replace traditional electricity sources at its sites with those generated from renewable sources. Solar panels have been installed in most of our sites, with a view to reaching 100% renewable energy by 2025.
CSM Ingredients aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible.
Where we cannot reduce emissions in the short-term, however, we have partnered with initiatives to offset these emissions.
Thus in 2022, CSM Ingredients offset the totality of its Scope 1 & 2 emissions, thus becoming Carbon Neutral by investing in the following initiatives:
Blue carbon refers to carbon that is absorbed and stored in the coastal plants, algae and sediments. This project aims to sequestrate carbon stocks by protecting forests and marine parks located in the Great Bear Rainforest on the western coast of Canada in British Columbia. The Coastal First Nations who initiated this project, are handling the carbon offset revenues to protect their lands.
A forest conservation project in Izabal department, on the Caribbean Coast of Guatemala. This project aims to protect approximately 316,000 acres of tropical rainforest and other habitats to prevent the area from being cleared to make way for cropland and pasture.
Since 2021 also, CSM Ingredients has partnered with Tree Nation to build its very own Virtual Forest: every year, each employee is gifted two trees planted on their behalf. As a corporate objective, our aim is to have captured over 5,000 tons of CO2 by 2025.
